$200k Homes on the Silver Coast?

Can you still find a good deal on a home near the beach in Portugal?

Matt and I each have our go-to sections of the New York Times. For Matt, it’s only the games section. (He is a whiz at crosswords.) For me, it’s the real estate section.

Specifically:

  • “What You Get” which is a list of the homes you can get in a certain location for a specific budget, like $650,000 in Normandy, France.

  • The second is “The Hunt,” which follows a buyer’s search for a new home. Typically it includes three different properties and you get to choose which one you would choose, and which one you think the buyer chose.

With a surge in “moving to Portugal” searches recently, we thought it would be fun (and hopefully helpful) to do something similar for the Silver Coast of Portugal.

It’s been two years since we purchased a property here and one of the reasons we chose the Silver Coast is that real estate here was such a good value compared to Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve.

But real estate prices have risen sharply here in the last two years and we wondered if it was still possible to find a good deal, near the beach, on the Silver Coast of Portugal.
